15 Days 14 Night – Best of Borneo

Miri is a city in northern Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. It is the second largest city in Sarawak, with a population of about 360,000,[3] and located in close proximity to Brunei. It is the government administrative centre of Miri District in Miri Division. Miri is the birthplace of Sarawak’s and Malaysia’s petroleum industry, which remains the major industry of the city.

Day 1

Kota Kinabalu

Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, meet and greet with your tour guide and transfer you to your hotel for check in. After check in, guest will be free and easy to discover the city of Kota Kinabalu at own leisure.

Day 2

Selingan Turtle Islands Park (2days 1night)

Meet at your Hotel lobby 0530hrs (packed breakfast) for transfer to Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Take a 45minutes flight to Sandakan.

arrival, register at Turtle Island Parks HQ and check into your chalet. Have lunch at cafeteria and the guest will be free and easy at own leisure to do the water sports activities, e.g. swimming, snorkeling or walking around to island for sightseeing. Dinner will also be provided at the Islands restaurant.

After dinner, wait for rangers call to observe turtle laying eggs. Transfer the eggs to the hatchery and if there are young turtle hatchlings, an opportunity to observe the release of baby turtles to the open sea. Stay overnight at the chalet.

IMPORTANT NOTES

1. Please take note that Sabah Parks allow only camera of unaided flash to take photograph of the turtle. Video / Digital Video Cameras not allowed.

2. The Sabah Parks also forbid visitor from going around the island on their own from 6:00pm – 6:00am.

Day 3

Sandakan Orang Utan & Kinabatangan Wildlife (3days 2night)

Upon arrival at the Sandakan you will transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center which is approximately 30 minutes journey from the Sandakan airport.

At the center, observe man’s closest relative “the Orang Utan” being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo. Witness the feeding of the Orang Utan at the feeding platform.

1100hrs
Depart Sepilok to Sandakan Jetty for a boat ride to Kinabatangan River Sanctuary, and check in at River Lodge. Guests will be free and easy to walk around in our nature boardwalk. At 1500hrs, precede for boat cruising in search of the Proboscis monkeys, colorful tropical birds, wild pigs, huge monitor lizards and others wildlife.

There will be a wonderful journey of wildlife discovery. After the boat cruise, back to River Lodge and have dinner. There will be a night cruise which will lead you to witness the nature of fire flies as beautiful as a Christmas tree.

Day 4

Kinabatangan Wildlife

Wake up by the calls of nature. Early morning take a river trip to Pitas Lake to observe wildlife’s and experience the unique of Pitas Lake. After breakfast, there will be Cruise up river to Sukau village in search of primates especially the Endemic Proboscis Monkeys, birds and other wildlife.

Arrive Sukau; check in at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge.  Late afternoon, an option to take another river cruise to Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan. Late in the evening return to Kinabatangan Riverside lodge dinning hall for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5

Kinabatangan / Kota Kinabalu

Wake up in the morning. After breakfast, Transfer by land to Sandakan, Airport for flight back to Kota Kinabalu.

Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu city. After check in, guest will be free and easy at own leisure for the rest of the evening.

Day 6

Kota KInabalu City Tour / .Monsopiad Cultural Village

0830hrs
After breakfast, proceed for Kota Kinabalu city tour. Visit the Kinabalu Handicraft Centre, the Kinabalu Handicraft Centre or popularly known as Filipino Market among the locals and tourists is situated along Tun Fuad Stephen Street across Sinsuran Complex, many handicrafts can be find here, such as key chains, T-shirts and beautiful carved woods, there are also handicrafts from other Asian countries. Sarong batiks, rattan mattresses, Islamic calligraphies, brooches and also pearls can be found at this place.

Yayasan Sabah Building, This 30 storey circular glass building is supported by high tensile steel rods throughout its structure, an architectural and engineering marvel. It is one of only four such buildings in the world.  It is also the official office of the Chief Minister of Sabah.

Visit the Poh Toh Tze Chinese Temple, Sabah State Mosque and continue to Sabah Museum.

The Sabah Museum is the most prestigious museum in Sabah and is the State’s showcase of its rich cultural heritage and exhibits Sabah’s history, culture, social and natural history in one place.

1200hrs transfer to for your lunch. After lunch, proceed for a culture tour at the Monsopiad Cultural Village situated in the district of Penampang.

Monsopiad Cultural Village is a historical site in the heartland of the Kadazandusun people and it is the only cultural village in Sabah built to commemorate the life and time of the legendary Kadazan and head-hunter warrior: Monsopiad. T

he main feature in this cultural village is the House of Skulls  where 42 skulls were hang is already a prominent tourist attractions since 1979 and is widely mentioned in tourist brochures and travel guides. This will provide a conductive venue for visitors to have a glimpse of the culture of the Kadazandusun people.

Enjoy the cultural performances at 1400hrs before the guided tour around the village at 1500hrs. 1600hrs, transfer back to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu. Guest will be free and easy at own leisure for the rest of the evening.

Day 7

Kinabalu National Park & Poring Hot Spring (2days 1night)

0730hrs pick up from your hotel lobby, meet with your tour guide and transfer to Kinabalu National Park. An approximate two hours journey from Kota Kinabalu to the destination will give you a chance to see the panoramic views of the local villages.

You may stop at Nabalu Handicraft Centre for souvenir hunting. Continue the journey to Kinabalu National Park Headquarters. Upon arrival, proceed for Kinabalu Natural History Gallery where you will be given an introduction of the park and the majestic Mount Kinabalu.

Visit the botanical garden for introduction to the varieties of flora found in the park. If time permits, you may have the chance to visit the Timpohon gate, which is the starting point of climbing Mount Kinabalu.

In the afternoon, guests will have lunch at Liwagu Restaurant in Kinabalu National Park. After lunch, transfer to your accommodation for check in. Guest will be free and easy at own leisure after check in. Dinner will be served at Restaurant.

Day 8

Poring Hot Spring

After breakfast, Proceed to Poring Hot Spring, Guests may stop over at Kundasang Vegetable stalls for sightseeing and fruits hunting. Kundasang is renowned for temperate vegetables. A long row of wooden stalls ‘gerai’ bustling with vegetable whole seller. Kundasang War Memorial & Garden is like a fort on a hill.

Continue journey to Poring Hot spring. Poring Hot Spring is known for its open-air Japanese-style baths cold and hot spring water. The springs are known for their therapeutic properties and the waters with their sulphuric minerals are reputed to ease aching muscles.

Upon arrival, in the afternoon; lunch will be at the Poring Rainforest Restaurant and will be free and easy at own leisure. You may visit the Butterfly Farm where you can find several species of colorful and striking butterflies. Poring Orchid Conservation Centre, with 1,200 species orchid found with Kinabalu Park.

You also can visit Kipungit water fall where is 30 minute walks from Poring Hot Springs, do the Canopy Walk. A Must Visit! Stroll amidst the canopy of the Menggaris tree-the King of the Forest.

Late afternoon, depart Poring Hot Spring back to Kota Kinabalu. Overnight at Preferred Hotel

Day 9

Miri City Tour

After Breakfast, transfer to Kota Kinabalu International Airport for a 55 minutes flight to Miri. Arrive in Miri Airport, meet with your tour guide and transfer you to your hotel.

After check in, proceed for the native market. As you walk among the stalls, be introduced to a variety of edible plants from the jungle displayed at this colorful market. A few streets further towards the city centre, discover the fish market and the Chinese Temple. Continue to Canada Hill, a limestone ridge overlooking Miri town.

There, pay a respectful visit to the ³Grand Old Lady², the first oil well drilled by Shell far back in August, 1910. Adjacent to it is the Petroleum museum with a nice view of the city (sunset could also be a good time). Journey down to the seashore; share the secrets of success of the industrialists of Miri, as your guide points outat their magnificent villas.

Return to your hotel for overnight stay. Guest will be free at own leisure.

Day 10

Mulu Cave Tour (3days 2night)

Catch the morning flight for 25 minutes to Mulu. Upon arrival at Mulu Airport, meet with your tour guide and transfer to Royal Mulu Resort for check-in. approximately at 1330 hrs.

Proceed by longboat or by van to Park Headquarters. From the Park HQ, take a scenic 3km plank walk through primary rainforest to the entrance of Deer Cave. Deer Cave has the world’s largest cave entrance and is the largest single cave passage in the world – about 120 – 150 m in diameter, or it can fit St. Pauls’ Cathedral under its massive archway.

The cave has a moon-like landscape and from one vantage point, a perfect profile of President Lincoln can be observed. Most evenings at sundown, a spectacular exodus of about 2 million of bats can be observed as they leave the cave in search of food.

Next to Deer Cave is Lang¹s Cave. The stalactites and stalagmites inside this cave are representative of the very best limestone formations in the park. Trekback to the Park H.Q. by torchlight. Return to your accommodation and stay overnight.

Day 11

Mulu Cave Tour

After breakfast, proceed by longboat upriver to Wind Cave with its impressive ŒKing¹s Chamber¹. Here, stalactites and stalagmites with delicate lace-like patterns are found. A short walk along a plank walk suspended to the limestone cliff leads to Clearwater Cave.

Like most caves in Mulu, Clearwater Cave is the habitat of unique species of plants. One of them, the one-leafed plant can only be found at Mulu; rare species of orchids and pitcher plants can be seen in many locations and photo-sensitive algae grow on certain rocks and have produced needle-like formations that point towards the source of light.

Clearwater Cave has a wonderful swimming area shaded by giant rainforest trees. Enjoy a simple picnic or packed lunch, swim, relax and explore the caves before returning to Royal Mulu Resort. Stay overnight at Royal Mulu Resort. Guest will free and easy at own leisure.

Day 12

Mulu Cave / Kota Kinabalu

Check out from your hotel and transfer to Mulu Airport for flight to Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Upon arrival, meet with your tour guide and transfer to your hotel. After check in, guest will be free and easy at own leisure.

Day 13

Manukan & Sapi Island Tour

Meet at hotel lobby and transfer to jetty. Upon arrival at the jetty, hop on for a short 20 minutes boat ride which departs at 08:30hrs to the first island. Start of your activity. Spend designated time on the first island before proceeding to the second island for seafood BBQ lunch

After lunch, you are free to explore the second island or continue your sea sports activity. You can also laze around the Beach soaking the tropical sun.

In the late afternoon, prepare to pack up and standby by the island jetty for return boat ride to Kota Kinabalu jetty and onward transfer to your hotel.

Day 14

Breakfast at the hotel, guest is free and easy at own leisure. You may discover the city of Kota Kinabalu on your own. The places below are recommended for guest to visit. You may go for shopping; there are lots of shopping complexes or you may visit the Kinabalu handicraft centre, Sabah Tourism Board Building situated at 51 Gaya Street was gazed as a heritage building and officially became The Sabah Tourism Building in January 1991 and now serves as a tourist information centre.

Do walk to Australia place, where the Australian soldiers camped when they landed in Jesselton in 1945, now it is Quiet Street of print shop, police station, backpacker’s hostel and the Dewan Merdeka.

Dewan Merdeka is the Jesselton Community Centre, renamed Dewan Merdeka (independence building), and was completed in March 1958. It was the venue for many important and historical events, including the historic signing of the Cobbold Commission of Inquiry that collected the views of the people of Sabah & Sarawak agreed to the formation of the federation of Malaysia. This led the proclamation of the Federation of Malaysia on 16th September 1963.

Other than that, Atkinson Clock Tower is a building of a British Colonial empire in faraway Borneo had its share of difficulties and challenges. It is the first District Officer of Jesselton, Francis George Atkinson, died of Malaria at the young age of 28. His mother, Mary Edith Atkinson of England, built the Atkinson Clock Tower on Brace Hill in 1905, in memory of her son.

Visit Gaya Street Fair or Sunday Market where it’s originally known as Bond Street, this is the main street of Kota Kinabalu fully rebuilt in the 1950s and 1960s. Every Sunday morning is open from 6.30 am to 1.00 pm; the traders sell almost anything such as fruits and vegetables, fish, cut flowers & plants, puppies, home-made local cakes& ‘kueh-mueh’, souvenirs & handicraft and more.

Day 15

Free & Easy / Airport Transfer
