The Pulau Tiga Park, situated north of Kuala Penyu, covers an area of 158 square km and was gazette as a National Park in 1978. As far back as 1933, the main island, together with the two smaller islands of Kalampunian Besar and Kalampunian Damit (better known as Snake Island) were designated as Forest Reserve. Sabah Parks maintains a number of trails through the forest, one of them leading to the intriguing mud “volcanoes”, where mineral-rich mud and gas slowly bubble up from deep underground. The island is also known for its shy megapodes, chicken-sized birds which lay their eggs in the sand and leave the sun to incubate them.
Arrival / Kota Kinabalu – L/D
Upon arrival, you will be met and transfer FireFly Eco Camp, in Klias river for check in. Klias River is situated on the Klias Peninsula. It is here at the Klias Wetland where you will be able to watch unique looking proboscis monkeys.
These creatures have been gaining popularity among the tourists due to their one of a kind looks. The Klias Wetland is largely populated by these monkeys, This is a famous ecotourism site in Sabah.
The Klias River cruise is one of the activities most looked forward by tourists when visiting Sabah. On the cruise, expect to see the unique proboscis monkeys of the Klias Wetlands.
The proboscis monkeys are only found in Borneo. The river cruise begins in the afternoon and usually ends in the evening. It is not hard to recognize a proboscis monkey as it is the one with a long nose and a bulging belly.
The river cruise begins at 4pm in the afternoon and will take a period of about 2 hours. Shortly into the river cruise, you will be able to see monkeys and other wildlife around the trees in the wetlands. Do watch out for long-tailed macaques, otters, crocodiles and silver-leaf monkeys that commonly wander around in the waters of the mangrove forest. Visitors are also in luck to watch some species of birds such as the hornbill, gray heron, eagle, white heron, eagle as well as the kingfisher.
The night cruise will bring you to the phenomena of synchronized flashing of lights of the magical fireflies, “I’ve never seen so many fire flies, it’s like a street of brightly lit Christmas trees, it is absolutely amazing!” are the usual remarks by delighted visitors especially children.
On a clear night, you can occasionally catch the sight of nocturnal animals such as the fruit bat, the buffy fish owl, small snakes and even wild boars drinking from the river. On such nights a rare and breathtaking view of a myriad of stars including the Plough and the Milky Way can be seen with amazing clarity.
Romance Island (Kalampunian Besar) & Survivor Island – B/BBQ Lunch
After breakfast transfer to Kuala Penyu, jetty our long beach island tour Pulau Tiga, is believed to be formed by a volcanic eruption over a hundred years ago, Pulau Tiga was essentially unknown to the world until it became a household place name in America, much thanks to highly successful reality TV series, “Survivor”.
Pulau Tiga, when translated means Island of Three. The name is derived from three undulating humps visible from a distance when approaching the island. This untouched piece of natural playground with a beautiful landscape and a bountiful marine life is now open for discovery and stay.
The accommodation is comfortable chalet style, a far cry from the accommodation filmed and experienced by the “Survivor” participants, nestling under huge trees at the edge of beach, with scuba diving and non-motorized sea sports.

You will be transfer back to Kuala Penyu jetty and proceed back to Firefly Eco Camp, and your will be free and easy till dinner, after dinner you will go for a night cruise to see the night wildlife at Klias river.
Kota Kinabalu City Tour – B
After breakfast, Proceed to tour the City of Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the State of Sabah. The tour will include a photo stop at Sabah State Mosque with its gold inlaid onion dome, the largest dome of its type in Malaysia. Visit the Chinese Buddhist Temple where a huge statue of “Kuan Yin”, the goddess of mercy who welcomes and blesses all who visit the temple.
Proceed to the tallest building in Kota Kinabalu, Yayasan Sabah Tower, officially known as Menara Tun Mustapha (Sabah Foundation Building). Built in 1977, this magnificent 30-storey circular glass sculpture that reaches 122 meters high is one of the few hanging structure type of building in the world. Also, pay a heritage educational visit to Sabah Museum to learn more about its unique culture and history and the Heritage Village on the Museum grounds where you can enter and experience different types of traditional houses of the various indigenous groups of Sabah.
Along the way, drive pass Kampung Likas and the Likas Wetland, which is a natural bird sanctuary. Take a brief stop at Signal Hill, where you will be greeted with a beautiful bird’s eye view of the city skyline and nearby islands, before arriving at Filipino Market where you can pick up cheap and unique handicrafts, souvenirs and foodstuffs. You may wish to bring back some dried seafood from the seafood produce shop.
